Tulips at Kingwood Center

Built in 1926 for Mr. and Mrs. Charles Kelley King, this 47 acre estate in Mansfield, Ohio opened as a public garden in 1953.
The gardens change season to season, but the most popular display is the tulips in May. Every year the staff plants more than 55,000 tulip bulbs for a brilliant display in the spring. When the tulips are done, they are replaced with over 35,000 annuals.
When I saw that the peak for the tulips coincided with my yearly Wade and Gatton hosta farm trip (more on that later), I decided to go see the tulips since it was in the same general vicinity.
I will feature the tulips in this post and do a separate post for some of the other blooms due to the amount of photos.

These coral colored ones were my absolute favorites as you can tell by the amount of photos I took of them!
I love how perfectly they match the bricks.

Sorry....I could have done an entire post just on these gorgeous ones. LOVE!!!

  1. Pearl, Beautiful photos. What I want to know is how you knew they were at peak. If I go on their site I can't find anything that tells me when anything is at peak.

  2. What stunning gardens. I am in Southern Ohio and have never been there. Seems like I never get out and about on trips anymore.

  3. You may or may not recall from my trips to Biltmore that tulips are my favorite garden wildflower so this has left me breathless. Of course, it's just one more place (in Ohio!!) that I've added to my "list."

  4. Beautiful gardens, Pearl. Reminds me a little of the gardens at Biltmore. The tulips are gorgeous --in fact, all of the gardens are. You know me----I LOVE visiting gardens like that. We go to Biltmore during every season to see all of the different flowers.

    Hugs,
    Betsy

  6. What a beautiful spot.

I scrolled through and found your post on Watkins Glen. We stopped there last August on our way north to Lake Ontario. We didn't get to walk the entire trail because my mother-in-law was with us. She gamely did part of it then we headed back down to the car.

Glad you found my blog. I'll look forward to reading yours, too.

    1. I've only seen the tulips but I would like to go back and see the annual display sometime. I'm sure it's beautiful anytime but I think the tulip display is the most popular.

Reminds me of the song " Tiptoe Through the Tulips." I think it was sung by Tiny Tim.
