Do you love oranges? Do you love pie? Have you ever considered making an Orange Pie?
Seriously?
I didn't either but when I saw a picture of an Orange Pie on-line, and loving all things citrus, I knew was going to make that pie.
When my sister gave me some oranges fresh from Florida this week, I remembered that Orange Pie. I found two recipes but this one had a cream cheese filling in it and cream cheese has never let me down.
This pie is a citrusy slice of spring! The cream cheese and oranges make such a lovely combination.
Wouldn't this pie look beautiful on your Easter dinner table? And I bet most of your guests have never had Orange Pie before. It's absolutely delicious and so refreshing!Orange Supreme Pie
Orange Filling:
1 1/4 cups water
1 cup sugar
3 Tbsp. clear-jel
1 tsp. orange Kool-Aid
3 oranges, peeled and membrane removed. Cut in small pieces and drain off the juice.
additional 1/2 cup cold water
Bring 1 /1/4 cups water to a boil. Mix together sugar, clear jel, and Kool-Aid. Add 1/2 cup cold water to the sugar mixture and stir. Pour into boiling water, stirring as it cooks. Remove from heat after it thickens. Cool completely. Stir in orange pieces.
Cream Cheese mixture:
4 oz. cream cheese
1 cup powdered sugar
8 oz. Cool Whip
Mix together cream cheese and powdered sugar. Add cool whip. Pour into baked pie crust. Top with orange filling.
This makes a large 9 inch deep dish pie or possibly 2 small pies.
I had extra orange filling that didn't fit in the pie so I just spooned it over my slice of pie.
Enjoy!

How pretty! I have never heard of orange pie but you are right it sounds like the perfect complement to sunshine.
ReplyDeleteSuch a good comparison!
DeleteYum! It looks like the perfect pie for a summer dinner. So cheery and bright and I know delish. Love your description of cream cheese-I agree!
ReplyDeleteHello on a gorgeous, spring day in TENNESSEE. Wow---after the long and bitter winter we had this year, Spring is even more inviting and lovely.
ReplyDeleteI saw that Orange Pie when we were on vacation --but didn't take time to comment on it... I have never heard of an Orange Pie---but that one looks AWESOME... Thanks so much for sharing.
We are now home 'again' --after our 5th trip since the end of February.... Seems as if we visited five different states --although the trips weren't planned for that reason... ha... BUT--as I always say, it's great to be home... I did publish a blog post today--so check it out when you have time. Have a wonderful weekend.
Hugs,
Betsy

It looks divine! I would love the orange/cream cheese combo A LOT! Not sure what 'clear jel' is though? Thanks much for sharing at Weekend Potluck. Please come back again soon.
ReplyDeleteThank you.....clear-jel is a thickening agent and it's available in bulk food stores in my area.
DeleteYou could substitute cornstarch although you would probably cut that back to 2 tbsp.
Clear-jel turns clear after cooking while cornstarch tends to look more cloudy.
Your recipe for Orange Supreme Pie is making my mouth water. This will surely me on my to do list in the near future. Thank you for sharing with the Clever Chicks Blog Hop! I hope you’ll join us again next week!

I have read this 4 times and can not find the amount of vanilla, I want to try it but I don't want to make it w/out knowing the amount.. So could you please publish the amount? Thank You..
ReplyDeleteI am so sorry. I meant to eliminate the vanilla and missed that one. It really doesn't need it. If you want to add some I wouldn't add more than a half teaspoon. I will edit that. Thanks for bringing that to my attention.
DeleteI absolutely love oranges, and this looks amazing. Thank you so much for sharing.
ReplyDeleteIs clear-jel the same as Knox gelatin?
ReplyDeleteNo....it's more like cornstarch. You can substitute cornstarch but it might take a little less and it won't be as clear as clear-jel. I think the flavor would be about the same. I would cut the cornstarch back to 2 or 2 1/2 Tbsp.
DeleteThe Kool-aid, is it 1 tsp. of the powder?
ReplyDeleteYes.
DeleteI too had never heard of clear jel. Could you use unflavored gelatin? Also, if you are short on time you can buy can orange segments where the can fruits are.
ReplyDeleteI would substitute cornstarch but cut the amount back to 2- 2 1/2 Tbsp.
DeleteI too had never heard of clear jel. Could you use unflavored gelatin? Also, if pressed for time, the grocery store has canned orange segments located with canned fruit. I have used them in other recipes and find they are good. Thanks for sharing
